About Oceana Cares

ANGIE - OWNER / CLIENT SERVICES MANAGER
Angie found her passion for the disability care sector at age 17 while teaching young children with a disability to swim at CCC swim school for the disabled in Tauranga, New Zealand, what started as a volunteer position quickly evolved into a 23-year career in disability services. Angie returned to Australia and gained valuable experience in group homes, working as a case manager and support worker while completing education in disability services, medication competencies and other aspects of direct care, followed by 5 years in supported employment services. Angie quickly realized that working with people with a disability was her life's purpose as she found satisfaction in making a positive difference to peoples' lives.
In 2017, Angie had surgery on a brain aneurysm which, which in turn, caused a complete right ICA stroke, followed by a diagnosis of Vascular Elhers-Danlos syndrome. A condition that effects connective tissue causing mobility issues and chronic pain. After the stroke Angie took 5 years to rehabilitate, learning to walk, talk and all aspects of self-care, it was during this difficult time that Angie gained a deeper understanding of the needs of people with a disability and a desire to find a way of better caring for people with a disability. After returning to the workforce, Angie worked as a Client Services Manager and an Operations Manager and quickly realized that the NDIS had changed the way services were being provided, while some good had come of the funding model, Angie became unhappy with the way some providers prioritized making money over caring for clients and staff. It was at this time that Angie decided to make a difference by starting Oceana Cares with a genuine desire to treat people better, prioritizing care and kindness over everything else. Angie also has 3 children on the Autism spectrum
